Today, Tim and Austin tried out the sawmill for the first time. We started where all building projects ought to start: in the woods. First we selected some trees that fit our intended purpose, felled them, hauled them, and turned them into lumber right here in the yard. Since this was our first time trying out the mill we picked a tree right near the site of the sawmill. After the tree was down, we limbed it. We had a 12ft log that was 20 inches wide. We gave the engine oil and gas and had to use a super big funnel because the odd angle of the oil inlet. We pulled the cord and it started right up. The band wheels were tightened to put tension on the blade and then we gave the trigger a pull. We watched the blade spin at extremely high speeds while the engine roared. Then we began pushing the saw toward the log making contact and beginning to make a long cut. We made 14 ¾ in boards and 3 4×4 beams. Success!
