Planting Garlic

What a success! Thanks to everyone that came out and helped us plant all of this year’s garlic. Many hands sure made light work of it. Starting off with positive attitudes and a wide variety of diverse friends we managed to get ALL the garlic planted in under 2 hours. We are so thankful to everyone who lent a helping hand yesterday to make it all happen.

As it happened, we actually planted the garlic on the day of the full moon — we believe that this will give the crop extra good energy to produce its roots before the looming freeze comes in. We are now working on covering the garlic with a nice blanket of mulch to keep the ground covered throughout the winter. We have high hopes for this garlic crop to sell to farm to table restaurants and as a Willow Brook Farm fundraiser.

Since garlic cures nicely, it can last awhile in storage. We will be looking forward to a huge harvest of scapes that the crop produces in June to be sold, make pesto with, and freeze for future culinary experiments.

A sincere thank you to everyone who came out to help — THANKS so much for the hands on support. Hope to see you all for the harvest!
