Today we manually spread 30 lbs of cover crop seed across the 5 acre forest patch cut on the property. It was a really rewarding endeavour because we are being apart of gifting the next fellows with more fertile land to cultivate. This is a really important part of transitioning Willow Brook Farm into a more diversified permaculture farm incubator.
We put down buckwheat, oats, clover and rye grass. Our goal is to keep the soil intact, controlling for erosion, while also conditioning the soil. We expect this to aid in the break down of the tree roots so that they’ll pop out more easily next year when we begin to work this part of the farm.
