This week has started out on a horrible note after hearing the news yesterday of the shooting that went down in Las Vegas. My heart aches for the all the victims and families involved, I pray that our country can send the most powerful healing prayers possible to those that have been affected by this. I pray that we can open our eyes and know that hate begets hate and love begets love.
On a different note, now that it’s October, the farm has been gearing towards a mode of transition and preparation for winter. We have been cleaning up our irrigation system that would freeze and break if it was kept up during a frost. We’ve taken our caterpillar tunnel down since we won’t be using it this fall. We have been preparing a new garlic plot for Willow Brook Farm’s own garlic seed that will be going in the ground this month. There are lots of beds covered with cover crop seed that are growing very vigorously, desperately trying to grow the fastest they possibly can until the cold knocks them out. Our greens have withstood some cold nights recently, and they look tougher than ever. We’re looking forward to pulling some frost sweetened carrots out of the ground in the coming weeks. We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful transition of fall!
